Minute Clinic

Posted by Mamchelle74 on 11/4/2009

I would not recommend wasting my money by going to a minute clinic. Since I have no insurance, I thought that I could save money by visiting a minute clinic instead of a doctor. I went after having been sick for two weeks with a hacking cough and fever, and I could barely function well enough to take care of my two children. I rarely ever get sick, and in fact had not had to go to a doctor for a sick visit in well over two years. I explained to the nurse practitioner that it was uncommon for me to get an illness of this severity and duration. I do have a history of occassional episodes of bronchitis when I was younger, for which I would always need an antibiotic. I told her that this felt like Bronchitis. The nurse practitioner barely listened to me, and in fact interrupted me several times while I was talking to her about my history and present illness. She proceeded to lecture me about viral illnesses and the ineffectiveness of antibiotics in treating them (as if I didn't already know that). She then sent me home with an over the counter medicine. Two days later I ended up in the ER with severe Bronchitis, and pneumonia in one lung, plus a huge doctor bill. A prescription for Zithromax had me well two days later. If you are ill enough to seek care, do not waste your money at a minute clinic. The nurse practitioners there treat you like you are uneducated, and then don't treat your illness at all.

Just what I needed

I have been to the Minute Clinic a few times now- for things like the flu and sinus infections. They have always been on top of their game and once even told me that I didn't have a sinus infection (that it was viral) and instead of prescribing me something I didn't need she recommended some over the counter drugs and told me that if I wasn't any better in 3 days to come back and she would re-evaluate the situation. She was extremely nice and thoughtful- which is more than I can say about the care I have gotten from my slew of doctors over the last 27 years.

Your system won't provide access to the reviews for this site; keeps sending me to "write a review," even though I'm just trying to GET information.

Slow and rude service!

Waited one and a half hours along with another sick person. Spent another half hour for exam. After taking my money, Nurse said I would need to wait 3 days for antibiotics. Who can wait 3 days for antibiotics? Had to see my Doctor first thing Monday. He prescribed me the medicine. When I got home there was a message from the minute clinic saing they lost my throat culture and I needed to come back to repeat exam, UNBELIEVABLE!
